I drew this for
for her birthday. It is yet another piece of jaguar related stuff that that seems to be haunting her recently.
The picture itself is based on a 6th century statue of a jaguar god of the Zapotec people, who were a mesoamerican rainforest culture.
I started this piece by staring for a long time at the statue. The paper was prepared by using tea and coffee and an oven with the image inked on freehand with indian ink. To get the vibrant colours of mesoamerican cultures, I used kids poster paints.
